I understand all people are different, with varying learning styles and the time it can take to grasp certain concepts (I am talking from personal experience!). From this experience, I know a variety of studying methods, and recall methods that can allow for improved memorisation of topics.
The first session will partially comprise of taking the time to get to know the student, and what they are specifically struggling on. It will then move on to a generalised overview of the content they will need to understand. This allows me to identify the areas of difficulty and specialise my classes to work with them, rather than against them.
I will always try to include an element of fun into each session, along with regular check ins, so the student never feels too overwhelmed and can ask as many questions as they want. I would rather spend an entire session on a single concept, allowing the student to fully understand it, than speeding through the content and essentially wasting the session as the student may not feel they have had enough time to understand fully.
After finishing content on a certain topic or unit, I then will create a mini 'test' for the student to take in their own time, so I can understand if anything needs further work or understanding. I say 'test' as there is no time limit (but is closed book).
As time moves closer to any exams or deadlines, I can provide links to past papers and mark them, or can adapt my teaching styles.
