Academically, I am doing my double masters in Data Science, here in University of Wolverhampton after my MSc Physics. Professionally, I have worked as a STEAM educator in various institutes of Nepal mostly based on rural areas for the last six years, I have accomplished the masters in physics(M.Sc. Physics) academically. I believe that my passion, experience, academic background and laboratory skills at various academic institutes has enhanced my potential to pursue and explore research on implications of the STEM education focused in secondary science curriculum.
As a STEAM enthusiast and Physics teacher, I have always been fascinated whenever mathematics explains phenomena we experience in everyday life and nature around or beyond us. Being Brought up in a rural area, torch light and radio were only devices that were in my access, and of course my favorite, consequently, triggering my expanding curiosity for the answers related to working principles of those devices. This curiosity in the field of natural science and technology has determined my field of studies as well as work and, I might say, my path in life. While fulfilling my professional responsibilities as a Physics teacher and STEAM educator, my passion in the field of education reached a new threshold when I found that the practical acknowledgement of various physical factors like energy, force, field, electromagnetism, atoms and particles can be effectively utilized to achieve the objective of holistic development in the students.
During this time, I got a wonderful opportunity to establish as well as operate a few science laboratories and maker’s spaces in schools where I gained various skills related to project selection, planning and resource management. Collaborating with students in rural areas, I got a wonderful opportunity to apply various theoretical ideas related to physics to solve the surrounding problems such as the absence of solar powered digital electric bells and smart dustbins to motivate people in the community to contribute to environmental sanitation. For this reason, I have been awarded, “35th anniversary award”, from the international association of physics students(IAPS) with a theme Physics for society.
During my masters, I published a research paper entitled, “Evolution in Propellant of the Rocket Engine” in the Journal of Materials Physics and chemistry. In this research, I discovered the numerous applications of theoretical, experimental and computational physics to figure out the problems and solutions associated with a specific field. In addition, I gained valuable research experience related to study and selection of research methodologies, data collection, data analysis and literary reviews.
Currently, dedicated to integrating STEM in science and teaching, I am concentrating on selection, planning and executing of the STEM projects related to regular secondary curriculum in our Maker’s space. Where, simple projects related to various topics are implemented inside regular science class. Consequently, I really feel elated to observe my students grow their interest in topics related to physics, chemistry, biology, mathematics and environment. Therefore, I soulfully desire to examine the impact of stem education on student learning through a case study and data analysis of secondary science curriculum.
To recapitulate, as physics has always been my passion and interest, I would admire to have professional ties in the role of Physics Mentor. This role will fit me best professionally where I can share my ideas, skills and concepts of mathematics to young peoples, and motivate them to understand beauty, logical patterns and the importance of Mathematics in human society.
