I teach English Language using the "Natural Method" which can be likened as a response to the Grammar translation technique. This method involves me asking the learners to make an effort to carry out all of their thought processes in English so that they can communicate in English.

The technique aims at building a connection between thought and expression. In some scenarios, it requires strictly prohibiting the English learners from using their native language. The learners are supposed to perfectly express himself/herself in English, with impeccable usage of grammatical phrases and sentences.

The Task-Based Approach is also a different method I incorporate in my teaching. This approach focuses on competencies the learners want to develop and is based on the idea, why is English taught? Rather than what is shown. So here, the language is learned by doing certain activities and relating English to daily conversation. The tasks given range from ‘ordering in a restaurant’ to ‘reviewing a movie,’ and the grammar and vocabulary revolve around the job itself.

As a teacher, I always endeavour to do my homework correctly – When starting a new class, I prepare well with the topic and keep many related activities ready. Then, map out clearly how I will introduce the topic, break the ice, and make my learners express themselves well in class.

It is also important to mention that I think of the likely challenges I may encounter in class with the learners, then ensure that I have a solution ready to these challenges.

Doing the above makes teaching and interesting, effective and amazing experience for new learners.
