I graduated from my degree in Biomedical Science, but the journey was more complex than normal for
me. I went to different schools growing up and saw the differences in teaching approaches but also
recognised the best way I learnt and that this was different for everyone. I tutor because I know that
learning can be difficult, but finding the right approach can make a world of difference for a student.
From a young age I have had a passion for science, specifically Biology and Chemistry. It wasn’t a
subject that came naturally to me but I found it fascinating, and I knew that it was the route I wanted
to take into my adult life. I completed my degree at Oxford Brookes University, and I am even in the
process of being published as a co-author in a scientific journal as a result of my dissertation. When I
was in Year 10, my science teacher sat me down after the lesson and told me there was no chance I
would ever be able to pursue a career in science. To pick a different dream, because I wasn’t good
enough. A teacher telling you that gives you two options, either give up or persevere. I chose to
persevere, to prove her wrong but it was a difficult journey. Teachers have a massive influence on
your life when you are at school, and I want to help students find their dream and persevere. I want
to be the influence I wish I had at that age.
