My teaching style is a mix of content learning and question asking. A mix between going over content through a PowerPoint or textbooks and asking exam style questions based over each topic we learn. Scaffolding is the method I use in order to get students thinking about their work without spoon feeding them the answer. I’ll teach in matters where knowledge is gray/not there with an example similar to the question they have and then get them to apply their new knowledge to their question.
I have experience with tutoring children aged 4-15 maths and English and I understand changing my pace or rhythm to suit each person. From holding the hands of 4 year olds just learning to write and assisting older students with scaffolding questions to answer GCSE style questions.
Each person learns differently and know different information so question asking allows me to understand what I am working with and then figure out how to give them the best support to understand what they’re doing.
A little goes a long way, so overwhelming students with information will make learning counterproductive. I appreciate giving students time to process information or even just taking a small step back, but all while keeping a strong work ethic.
I also have experience with teaching multiple children at once ranging from different key stages and points in their educational journeys, I am able to be quick thinking and precise with my teaching: adaptable. I deal with every student sensitively, I value their well-being. Despite academic success, emotional well-being is even more important in a learning environment.
