I will first spend time to find out the strengths and weaknesses. What are the students favourite areas and the least favourite areas of the subject. I will use the strengths and build their confidence to overcome the weaknesses. Some kids love geometry but not algebra. I will use geometry to show the reasoning in algebra problems. This will show the students that everything is connected in maths. They will start to feel more confident. Another method is to use very simple real life situations. This way the student feels connected to the subject and not like this subject is something entirely separated from everyday life. There are many more methods like this that I use and each student needs a different method.
