As a recent A-level student I know that it can be very stressful and struggling, especially with a topic like politics. My aim is to use the same hands on method that I developed for myself.
For instant creating effective flashcards to remember key events and legislation that is needed.
Using timelines to help remember key events. But also to help other subjects such as history.
My lessons would start of with the phrase “what I know”. There I would get the student to list every single thing they know about UK, US politics and with the theories that are used. From there I would help them compress that information into a way that their brain would remember. That may be a memorable song or maybe it could be creating a mind map to help to remember.
From there I would find clips of each subject and that would be the next stage.
Videos are the things that helped me the most. Especially on “prechewed” politics. A very helpful site that helps with every last subject.
Then I would also have a bank of past questions that would the student would then pick from.
From there we will plan an essay together and for homework they will have to write it
