As a professional lecturer and tutor, I find that tailoring sessions to the student is often the best approach. There are, however, always certain universals. For example, if you are pursuing a qualification in psychology, one of the most important skills - besides the content, of course - you can master is good academic writing. To this end, I will examine a sample of your writing and help you improve the quality thereof, in an iterative fashion designed to get you to where you want to go.

I am also a firm believer in the art of academia, and will likely provide short exercises for you to practice between sessions. These exercises are tailored to testing and practicing your skills but are entirely optional. I understand you have a workload you must focus on, and I do not want to negatively influence that. As much as I do love academia for the sake of academia, I also know that your marks are important to you. To help maintain and improve upon your marks, I will work through your assignments with you and help you - though I will obviously not do the assignment on your behalf.

In terms of the actual psychology side of things, I am fortunate enough to hold a master's degree therein. This means that even if it's not one of my personal favourites (cognitive psychology, neuropsychology, and research) I am more than capable of helping you understand the content. I will draw on real-life examples to fuel my explanations and am able to re-explain in a number of ways to help you understand the content.

Phillip was one of the fiew lecturers who made a large impact on my studies. He was very helpfull, and constantly pushed me to do better because he knew I could. The advice he gave on assignments helped me to become a better student in general. He also taught me how to paraphrase better, reference correctly and how to find academic peer reviewed sources that seemed to be challenging at times. Having him as a tutor was one of the best decisions possible.

I had Phillip as my Research Psychology supervisor in my Honours year. He was absolutely fantastic throughout the course of my thesis. His guidance, expertise and willingness to assist me on all areas of the project was a true asset.

I had the pleasure of attending Mr. Phillip’s lessons, and I can confidently say it was one of the best academic experiences I’ve had so far. Phillip is a passionate lecturer who brings a remarkable level of knowledge, enthusiasm, and clarity to each class. His deep expertise in the subject matter is evident, yet he makes complex topics accessible and understandable for all students. He is always willing to assist if needed. His teaching style is highly interactive, encouraging participation and cultivating a collaborative learning environment. He encourages his students to succeed and work harder for greater results. I would highly recommend Phillip Marais to anyone looking for an engaging, insightful, and supportive lecturer who truly makes a difference in their students academic journeys.
