I am aware of the fact that students really struggle to see how some of the science concepts apply to their lives. They see science as a bunch of memorized definitions and sort of abstract theories and equations. So my strategy in science teaching and tutoring is to tap into their passion by connecting science to things they know and care about. I do this by using everyday life situations to introduce a new topic or concept. This approach is meant to arouse interest and capture attention. In this way the scientific concepts and jargon learnt can easily be applied to normal life situations. some of the teaching methods i use include open discussions, video simulations, power point notes and diagrammatic illustrations. Open discussions is a way of building good student-teacher rapport and sharing of knowledge. Video simulations help students to understand visible proof of facts and to see how and why things work the way they do. Diagrammatic illustrations helps students identify parts of a system and how they functions together. Finally, I like giving students assignments like home work, quiz and mini research exercises.
