I start by understanding what are your goals in learning the language, what you aspire to do with the language, where you want to get to. I will then form an impression of your current level and understand what areas or aspects are causing you difficulty. I aim to make the lessons enjoyable and give students a keen sense of the progress they are making. Learning a language does involve dedicated work, and it’s important to work on several different aspects in parallel: building vocabulary, understanding of the structure of the language, its grammar and syntax, pronunciation and idioms which enable you to be immediately understood by native speakers and thereby gain access to the living culture of which the language is a part.

As regards exam syllabuses, I am familiar with the main UK language syllabuses and can, if required, follow these closely in structuring the lessons. An alternative approach is to shadow and repeat what the student has learned elsewhere, ensuring it is understood and consolidated.

I look forward to meeting you, understanding your needs in your chosen language, and working together!
