Number one is to establish where the student is, what they know already and to buiuld a positive working relationship.

Clear interactive presentation of a concept/principle/content/skill, followed by multiple opportunities to practice with ongoing rapid formative feedback.

Use of simulations, online experiments and lots of diagrams. Use of a doc cam as needed when problem solving/diagramming....
