I studied for my music degree course and PGCE at Goldsmiths College, University of London covering a wide range of musical areas including advanced performance and composition, music analysis, Western art music history, jazz, percussion, sound recording and ICT, including the use of Sibelius, Cubase, Ableton and Logic.
These courses have also enabled me to research accelerated learning and memory techniques, as well as brain functions, which have proved to be an invaluable teaching aid in my various Music teaching posts in secondary schools throughout London and Hampshire, including teaching at The Petersfield School.
During my time at Goldsmiths, I also studied composition with internationally renowned composers such as Sadie Harrison and Rodger Redgate – I learned much from their craft, and have often applied it to my own compositions, including a string quartet that was performed by the Kreutzer quartet.
I have been teaching Music in many secondary schools for six years; in this time, I have developed my teaching skills with years 7 – 11, covering a range of topics including ICT, discovering different ways in which they could be enthusiastically and effectively taught using various differentiation strategies to cover all abilities.
I have also been teaching electric bass and double bass students of all ages privately for the last 25 years, covering a wide range of styles from popular and jazz, to classical. It has always been my mission to develop music appreciation, knowledge and enjoyment (as much as technical skill) in all of my bass and secondary students alike.
Having always been actively involved in many professional musical groups, and session activities, from rock and jazz, to orchestral, I have collected a wealth of experiences and instrumental techniques in all styles that I feel would make a valuable and committed addition to your teaching team.
