I've been teaching for what feels like about 200 years now even though it's only been 15. I don't say that because I dislike it; in fact I love it so much and feel so comfortable with it that it feels like I've been doing it forever. In terms of what my lessons are like, that really depends on you - if you like conversational learning, we'll converse. If you like feedback on essays, I'll feed back. If you like to be shouted at like a drill sergeant...well, find a different tutor. My style, if you can call it that, is all about personalising your learning and making sure you know not only where you want to go, but how to go there. If you're preparing for an exam, I can help you unlock what that exam needs for you to succeed - sometimes it's not brilliantly clear but I have a lot of experience with IB, GCSE and A-Level and my students have always done well because I know how to give them what they need. All I need from you is determination and enthusiasm, and actually I don't even need the enthusiasm, though it's nice. Young people are interesting, fascinating, frustrating, wonderful bundles of potential and ideas, and working with them gives me as much joy now as it did back in 2009 when I qualified as a very naive but well-meaning teacher in the North East of England. Now we have started a new chapter, I will be looking to work 1:1 with students who want to achieve the best they are capable of, and maybe even a bit more than they think they can!
