I'm providing personalised lessons for my students, targeting specific areas of difficulty that each person has, breaking down the questions into smaller steps and approaching each step in detail, gaining experience and speed with more challenging questions. Following those example questions, we look to past paper questions for real-life question difficulty. To begin with, for those unaware of where to begin, I like having an overall assessment of their knowledge of the syllabus and targeting areas of concern, by utilising questions from their level, seeing the student's approach and how quickly they can complete the questions. I move patiently with my students and help them along when they've thought about their method and still need guidance, allowing for not only academic growth but allowing them to critically think about the process they need to go through, allowing for the development of other aspects to themselves. Depending on how long the tutorage session will be, we will take breaks, which could utilise timing methods e.g. Pomodoro in order to maintain the student's focus and make the sessions more effective overall, improving retention.
