Paul Murphy

I am presently a teaching fellow at the University of Birmingham and work on the pre-sessional course there. I attended Warwick University and Queen's University Belfast and as well as this possess a Trinity certTESOL qualification. I have experience of teaching A Level English Literature as well as Cambridge KEY, PET, FCE and Advanced. Also IELTS and English for foreign speakers in the engineering, oil, gas, medical and technical industries. I teach classes on Zoom and possess a range of relevant academic and business English texts. I am an accredited Cambridge speaking examiner. My focus is on close textual analysis for literature students and fluency for language students. I use correction in classes and examinations to test learning results.

I have recently taught texts like 'Dracula', 'The Picture of Dorian Gray', 'Hamlet' and 'A Streetcar named desire'. I have a wide-ranging knowledge of 20th century Modernism and have published a book on T.S.Eliot called 'T.S.Eliot's Postmodernist Complaint'. I like to set essay topics and discuss themes and issues covered by the books, character studies and the presentation of topics and concerns.

I have taught English in Germany, Italy and France to beginners, intermediate and advanced learners. I also have a knowledge of those languages as well as Spanish and Greek. I have taught face to face and online via Zoom and Skype. I can also offer classes via MS Teams. My classes are enjoyable, practical and enable learners to enjoy speaking, writing and reading English.
