With over 30 years of dedicated classroom teaching experience in secondary schools, I've cultivated a highly personalized teaching style that places a strong emphasis on the enjoyment of music and active learning. My journey in education has honed my personable skills, allowing me to connect with a diverse range of students, from high achievers to those seeking music as therapy or a fulfilling hobby.
My expertise spans a wide spectrum of exam courses, including GCSE and A-level Music, as well as Btec Level 2 and 3 in popular music. My subject knowledge is not only solid but also well-rounded, encompassing both classical traditions and popular music genres.
My passion for music extends beyond the classroom. Since 1977, I've been sharing my musical knowledge through private lessons, culminating in the founding of Dunamis School of Music in 1987. Within this venture, I offer specialized instruction in both classical and popular music.
My career path has led me to diverse educational settings, as I've led Music departments in three schools, each with unique demographics, since 1984. Additionally, I have lent my musical talents to various Churches, representing three different denominations. Since 2013, I've been engaged in a paid role as an organist and musical director, further enriching my musical journey.
As a versatile musician, I hold a first study in piano, a second study in flute, and a third study in organ. My formal education includes a music degree from Colchester Music School, which granted me a Certificate in Music and a Graduate in Music degree. To further enhance my teaching skills, I earned my PGCE from Leeds University.
Throughout my career, I've successfully guided countless students on their musical journeys, teaching piano and flute from beginners to the prestigious Grade 8 level. I employ a variety of grading systems, including the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music and Rock School grades 1-5 on the keyboard.
