I focus on what it is that problems you and what it is that most interests you about the subjects. That way lessons are more engaging and less demotivating. The sciences really rely on a solid foundation and knowledge of basic concepts, which can be applied to the more complex bigger picture. Maths, on the other hand, is simply understanding why we are doing the equations, once the interest is peaked, the whole subject becomes a lot easier to learn.
