I structure my lessons around specific needs and learning levels of students from a diverse range of backgrounds and experiences levels.
In my time as a tutor, I often find that lesson plans and learning materials need to be tailored to the specific learning styles of students. Because of this, I usually use our first meeting as a time to discuss what sort of materials, exercises, and communication will best lead to a student's positive learning outcomes. These materials will range from anything to written material, puzzles and quizzes, and video or audio materials.
On a personal level, I find that a high degree of patience and understanding works best to create a positive learning environment both for students and instructors. I encourage students to ask any and all questions about lesson materials or their desired subjects. Respectful communication is key to making students feel comfortable, and to ensure that their learning experience is actually an enjoyable one.
I have several years of teaching students at varied age and experience levels. I was most recently a tutor for collegiate athletes at an American university, where I personally tutored upwards of 20 students in various fields from English literature to history and philosophy.
Although every student and learning experience is different, a typical session with me may look something like this:
• 3 to 5 minutes of introductions and checking in with students progress
• 20 minutes of going over specific learning materials together - going over student's homework, assisting with reading and comprehension, etc
• short break
• 10-20 minutes of tailored study, where we discuss and go over specific questions and concerns regarding the student's learning materials and course work
