I hold a PhD in History from the University of Glasgow, an MA in Politics from Queen's University Belfast and a BA in Politics from the University of York. My teaching is based on the excellent supervision I was afforded at each of these institutions, all sessions I provide are open, inclusive and academically rigorous. I believe that the best teaching is a learning experience for both the Tutor and the Tutee, something which in turn is based on the platform of mutual respect.
My sessions are discursive and I require that Tutees engage in the session on that basis, I prefer to encourage Tutees to gain not only subject confidence but also personal confidence. Due to this I have particularly high expectations of my Tutees within sessions and also in their preparation for them. As an interdisciplinary academic I believe that all subjects feed off and can inform the other, this is something based in my PhD research into medieval Quadrivium/Trivium (the seven Liberal Arts). No matter your personal level of interest in Politics or History there is always something for me to learn from your interest and experiences of STEM, other Sciences, Mathematics and much more besides.
My career to date has been varied covering research, administration and casework in various Parliamentary Offices (Westminster and the European Parliament), working also for Non-Governmental Organisations, stately homes and in the hospitality industry. I also have considerable experience of campaigning for and research in busy organisations, both within and outwith the arts; for example organising Chopin Recitals (for example at the Bowes Museum and Wentworth Woodhouse). Alongside this, am more than used to working independently on projects, using my initiative and self-prioritising/organising my own work and budgets. Indeed, opening a small independent bakery and working from home required considerable strength of character in getting the business off the ground, gaining return custom and gaining a contract to supply a local Organic Box Scheme with Sourdough.
