My lessons are designed with the student's goals in mind. These can involve detailed focus on technical areas such as grammar or pronunciation, or more general help with essay writing (e.g. at GCSE, A-Level, or undergraduate level).
Through my extensive experience as a tutor and teacher I have learned how to build strong relationships with students in order to understand their needs and to best assist them with their progress in English. In addition, my expertise in the subject of English literature makes me the ideal tutor for those wishing to improve the quality of their analysis and argumentation at more advanced levels.
I can tailor lessons to suit your needs and interests, and offer a flexible but focussed and detailed approach that prioritises your goals.
Lessons can be personalised in any way that best fits your needs, but these might include:
– Detailed feedback on essay-writing to identify weaknesses and how to address them. – Helping students understand the context and meaning of texts that they might be studying for GCSEs and A-Levels, to better prepare them for examinations and course work. – In terms of oral English, specific focus on the ways that you pronounce words and phrases to make you sound more natural and to improve your confidence. – For more advanced students, guidance on how to engage critically with texts, how to structure arguments, how to use contextual and critical material, and how to properly use citations and references.
