I have been teaching for over a decade and it has been an interesting ride.
I typically start lessons with a brief introduction of the topic, ask a few questions to assess previous knowledge before we delve in. I also do a lot of formative assessment to sure the concept is well understood.
Occasionally I will throw in a quiz and lots of mental math if it is a Math class.
