I would first do a sit down session to understand what the students will want to get out of my lessons. Whether that be to cover the curriculum for their exams or help in problem areas. Once a goal has been established I will:

1. Solve a few worked examples, explaining in simple terms how to solve the problem and to get to a solution.
2. Allow the students to solve a few worked examples with my assistance. Talking them through it the whole time.
3. Allow the students to solve a few worked examples on their own without any assistance. If they struggle and make mistakes, I'll talk them through what they did wrong and how to avoid repeating the mistakes in the future.
4. I'll then set homework for the students so they can attempt some examples on their own before our next session.
5. And finally make sure the students knows how to deal with the problem before moving onto the next topic.

I think with this method of teaching I'll be sure to get the very best out of my students and allow them to achieve success in their exams and tests!
