Oscar Talavera Sanchez

Hello! I´m Oscar, I´m Spanish and I have a great passion for teaching. After studying
Economics and a Master in Applied Research, I obtained my Qualified Teacher Status
on July 2020. During the 2019/2020 academic year, I taught Maths and four of those
months I did it online due to the Covid situation. In this time I tutored some of my
students in the area of Maths, two of them with special needs. Before that, I have been
tutoring five students in the subject of English for 2 years. Since September 2020, I
have been tutoring online with more than 1100 hours of lessons until now (majority one
to one but also in groups of 3).
I like to have a structured style of teaching Mathematics, although without letting the
structure domain the lesson. I can apply this same structure in the subjects of
Economics and Business Studies. I have a learning objective to start with and always
open to developing it at different levels. Whether the student achieves more or less
from that objective, there are two clear conclusions: that this is a job both for the
teacher and the student and that every step ahead of progress is worthy, no matter
how small the step is. I like to explain the topic and pass to modelled examples so that
the student knows what I am talking about so that later he can do other examples, first
with my help and then by himself. The questions that I use to guide the student into the
complete understanding of the topic are made in order to let the student advance step
by step into the complete understanding without room for misinterpretations. In the end,
there is always a moment of review and make sure that the objective (at least in its
basic form) has been achieved.
I have been teaching and studying the KS3 and KS4 curriculum of Maths, especially
preparing for GCSE for my students. I have knowledge of the different levels in which
each topic can be implemented, as well as the exams. I also have knowledge of the
KS5 curriculum of economics.
I believe that every student has more potential than what can be seen at first glance.
With my engaging ways I want to show and empower my students to believe one truth:
they can be good at what they choose to be good. For this, I believe I am perfect for
this job.
