I teach engaging and inspiring lessons, to all levels in music; I use 1-1 time to get to know the student and tailor specific lessons to suit their needs. Learning would be undertaken collaboratively, and a friendly atmosphere is important.
As a musician, I studied for an undergraduate degree and specialised in composition and musicology (academic music studies). I am a proficient pianist, organist and vocalist; and I also play the guitar and bass guitar. I have also composed and arranged music for film and media.
I served as a tutor during my time as a student, and have experience with a wide range of age groups and skill levels.
Students would be required to complete a small amount of homework/preparation before each lesson, but the focus on this will be more informal than set exam style questions, unless that's what the student requires. I will use this method as a means of solidifying knowledge covered in lessons, so we can then check to make sure that we have topics covered before moving onto the next.
I believe an open dialogue is necessary in education, and this will work both ways: I will be open with my students, in addition to them being open with me- this creates a more relaxed and comfortable learning environment and allows for a better teacher-student relationship to evolve. This leads to successful educational outcomes as well as positive personal development- all essential aspects of developing as a student and as a rounded person, too.
