I want to be considered for the position of Maths Teacher at your school.
I am a qualified Maths specialist with over 14 experience of effectively delivering Keystage 3, 4 and 5 in the curriculum. I possess a repertoire of teaching strategies and an up-to-date knowledge of current educational developments in Mathematics; including the new GCSE 9-1 curriculum and ability to use an interactive white board. I work well with young people and establish high expectations for students based on their respective abilities to promote purposeful learning. I have a proven track record of students achieving individual targets in all keystages.
I can communicate with individuals or students with different levels of communication needs. I have learnt to be patient, to speak and explain clearly, to be repetitive in making the lesson expectations clear. Make sure that I am continuously checking their understanding and address their concerns. This has improved my clarity, an important skill for a teacher whatever and whoever you are teaching. I am committed to equal opportunities and provide a positive and safe classroom environment. I have a confident and approachable presence in the classroom by preparing and delivering appropriate Mathematics lessons, in line with the National Curriculum and examination board requirements I can ensure the development of all pupils to their fullest potential.
As a professional I have developed an array of teaching techniques, I know how to alter my teaching style suit the learning styles of the students within my form groups or the nature of the topic being taught. My lessons are planned with the intention of capturing the interest of the students and to motivate them, I frequently employ the use of teaching aids to demonstrate a concept and for investigatory tasks that enable the students to explore an idea using physical models. Differentiating to meet the needs of all individuals takes precedence in the planning process with individualised learning outcomes for each learner together with the lesson objectives displayed at the start.
Formative assessment is included as part of my lessons; planning, key questions to determine prior knowledge of the topic, to identify misconceptions, to evaluate students' understanding of the topic and give immediate, constructive feedback. I use knowledge of individual students to make systematic records of their performance, which includes progress reports and National Curriculum levels based on departmental assessment.
I form very effective relationships with other professionals within the classroom and school community, and mainly because of extensive in-house inset training sessions on the subject I am aware of the role of the EAL or Learning Support department, and how to tap into their intimate knowledge of students under their supervision.
In my current role as Lead Maths Practitioner I am responsible for the performance of the maths department. I have oversight of quality control for the department, ensuring teaching across the department is to an accepted standard; to this end I host training sessions to encourage best practices and support with teaching materials and resources.
I proving the assessment materials for mock exams and end of term assessments and analyse the students’ performance for the department and make comparisons with individual flight paths. I also report to the leadership team on the department’s performance on a termly basis
I am capable of working to high standards and to meet targets, and am proactive in complying with school policy and professional regulations. I enjoy the opportunities the school offers for teachers to get involved in extracurricular activities, especially the sports hall and gym. I am an excellent organiser capable of achieving personal objectives as demonstrated by the successful completion of my university degree course. This proved my ability to comprehend instructions and plan and present work concisely and logically within stated deadlines.
I declare that I have not been convicted, nor had any criminal proceedings against me, nor have I been warned, either orally or in writing, in relation to any safeguarding issue. I declare that there are no such proceedings pending against me at the date of this declaration. I know of no reason why I should be considered unsuitable for work with children and I have not been dismissed from such a post for malpractice.
