I am a year 12 A level Student studying Maths, Chemistry, and Physics at Aylesbury Grammar School. I achieved a grade 9 in my Maths GCSE and a grade 8 in my Statistics GCSE. I also currently tutor maths to a year 9 boy in my school and have seen him exponentially improve since we started 2 months ago. I am currently volunteering 2 hours a week of my time at St Edwards Junior Catholic School as a teaching assistant to a class of year 6. This has allowed me to adapt to be able to talk and understand younger children and pass understanding to them in the most efficient and fun way possible. Doing this volunteering alongside tutoring work with a year 9, has allowed me to become more versatile with my teaching with different ages and has allowed me to understand what works best for people of different ages. In my lessons, I will use powerpoints from Drfrostmaths to teach the content and will get practice questions from sites such as mathgenie and past paper questions to ensure that the content is being applied and fully understood. Perhaps if a child is struggling with the content I will find an alternative method of teaching and slow the lessons down to make sure that the child is fully taking in and applying what is being taught. The lessons will not have a formal structure as such as I believe that this can bore the child and makes learning more difficult, from personal experience. However, the lessons will be more free flowing and not under a strict minute management.
