My lessons depend on the level, subject and goal of each student. Students can build confidence through conversation- which includes practical grammar, a wide range of real-life materials such as newspaper articles, TEDtalks etc, and games to improve fluency and confidence.
With IELTS/ Cambridge test preparation:
1. Mock tests are taken to assess level and areas of strength and weakness (the Speaking test will be done during the first lesson). Feedback on all aspects will be given.
2. Lessons then have a skills focus where students will study each part of the test- Reading, Writing, Speaking and Listening- to understand what is required (so there are no surprises on Test Day) and do practice activities to strengthen those skills using materials taken from previous tests.
3. Homework can be given if requested for further practice.
4. Students will receive feedback on all activities, including writing and speaking, and a grade.
I recommend that if you are serious about preparing for an IELTS or Cambridge exam, you give yourself enough time to prepare properly. The more time you have to study, the better you will do in your test. Advice can also be given on the different types of test (computer-based versus traditional paper) and we will also discuss the procedure for Test Day and how to collect your results.
Lessons can be booked in blocks of 10 or 20 and I would recommend that there is a minimum of 4 weeks between the start of your course and your actual test.
