With all of my students, I first gather what they already know, I then go over the fundermentals in order to bring them up to scratch so that I know that they can achieve the tasks that I set them, I will then taylor each lesson to Improve or learn a new skill set or chord. This way is the best approach to quickly impart my knowledge to them for further practice in their own time.
At the next stage students will learn how to recognise popular structures to some songs and subsequently develop the skill to playing by ear. Students will learn how to recognise the root note, which will then allow them to work out the key of the song, they will then learn how to work out the main structure of the song and then the student will apply what they have learnt to be able to play the main chord structure to the song.
