I graduated from university with a 2:2 BA in Digital Humanities in 2015, with the majority of my modules based on English literature and drama. I completed a 180 hour TEFL course in 2017 and was accredited a Certificate in Teaching English Online in 2020 from Cambridge Assessment English. I have experience teaching a variety of classes from beginner to advanced levels; 1-to-1 classes and group classes ranging in ages from 4 to 70 years.
I believe in assessing how the student wants to learn from the first lesson, so each lesson is tailor made to help them retain more information in the easiest way possible, whether that be through conversation and questions, lots of reading and writing, or through visual aids.
I like to integrate materials that are relevant to my students' needs - excerpts from novels for teenagers preparing for their exams for example. It is impossible to learn if your teacher is just relaying a constant stream of information so my approach is to introduce the topic ( vocabulary / grammar rules / pronunciation, etc ) and to then ask the student questions based on the topic to make sure they are motivated and understand what is being taught. I try to keep my lessons as fun and interactive as possible - if I see the student becoming bored we pause the lesson and do a quick game ( usually still based on the topic ) to regain their concentration and then we can resume the lesson. I am happy to teach basic vocabulary, grammar rules, pronunciation, reading, conversation classes for confidence, specialised area classes for advanced learners ( business / travel / finance / beauty / hospitality / healthcare, etc.. ) and anything else the student would like to cover in order to improve their English!
