My intent is to provide my students with a level of service exceeding that provided to me when I commenced my language learning journey.
The primary focus of learning any language should be learning to read, write, listen and speak the language, but enhancing the experience through exposure to the history and culture of the countries in which the language is widely spoken should not be overlooked; it adds to the student's enjoyment and, essentially, fuels their desire to continue studying. Thus, I focus on teaching languages in context rather than subject by subject.
Experience has taught me that, prior to this, the important foundations and building blocks, pronunciation and the alphabet for example, need to be understood by students.
Bespoke lesson plans can be developed upon request and, subject to availability and other considerations, individual tuition can be undertaken.
Having worked directly within an International Organisation for fifteen years and with organisations representing many nationalities for many years more, I am aware of the subtleties and differences between the Romance and Germanic languages and the approaches necessary to better acquire them.
I maintain a policy of maintaining low student numbers. For example, if I am teaching a student group, I will assess whether of not to engage in private tuition during the period of the student group course. Likewise, if I have a number of private students, I am unlikely to teach a student group.
