I have been a maths tutor since I was in year 8, working for Kumon, and I have worked for several of the UK’s leading online platforms for one-to-one learning which has been widely rewarding and allowed me to become more confident in my communication and analytical skills.
I'm a Biomedical Sciences graduate from Bristol University, and I have recently started my Clinical neuroscience masters in UCL this September. I have tutored since year 9 in a range of STEM subjects. My aim is to help students achieve the best possible grades they can, which is normally higher than they think they can achieve! I prefer STEM as I love the lack of ambiguity and relevance to the world around us. I hope my methods work for you, though I can always alter them to better suit you!
My ambition to become a tutor stemmed from wanting to branch out and extend my comfort zone. I am constantly wanting to try new things and put myself out there. A recent philosophy I have adapted is saying "yes" to everything and I've found that this has landed me some great opportunities through my scholarly and professional life.
I start with going through an exam paper in order to single out their strengths and weaknesses. This is helpful to both me and them as it allows us both to understand their strength and weaknesses. I then use this as a basis for my future lessons by going through topic-specific exam questions. Often I start my lessons with a quick review of what we covered in past sessions, just to ensure they are confident in that topic!
