I am incredibly passionate about teaching learning disabilities, mainly because of my life experiences and the experiences of my three children.
I have found that whilst there is a lot of awareness that learning disabilities exist, there often isn't enough knowledge surrounding how best to support individuals with learning disabilities, what symptoms may present themselves, or even obscure traits such as pica.
With me as your tutor, you can feel confident that you will be able to support those around you with whatever disability they have. You will learn how to use positive behavioural support (PBS) to encourage people, you will learn how to accommodate symptoms both at home and in the workplace, and you will learn coping strategies to help you as a parent of someone or a person with learning disabilities.
Learning disabilities have too often been seen as a death sentence, to the point that many dread having their children or themselves diagnosed. As your tutor, my job is to reassure you that learning disabilities are simply a difference in how things are approached. It isn't something to be afraid of or upset about, but something to embrace and encourage.
My hope for you, as your tutor, is that you will be able to support anybody, or that you find support within my lessons. This space is for anybody who wants to learn, no questions asked.
I hope you enjoy learning with me, and I also hope that you enjoy applying the theory learned to real life situations.
