I thing that the best approach to the study of history combines a theoretical approach with a thorough analysis of sources. I want students to be the protagonists of the lessons, telling me how I can help them decipher texts, choose the right bibliography for an essay, or better the understanding of a specific topic. What I want to do is to give back the lessons I have received through these formative years. I strongly believe that history should not be seen as a set of dates and minutiae, but rather as an intellectually-challenging subject. My format would thus be choose a period, a theme or a text and discuss it with the student. I imagine lessons as conversational, not just as mini lectures. I would be keen to ask students to prepare texts beforehand, but if that is not the case I am more than willing to guide them step by step into the framing of a specific period or the comprehension of a source. I would also recommend appropriate bibliography and additional resources for those students who wish to delve on a specific topic, as well as helping them choose appropriate resources for essays.
