Nick Cleary

I am an experienced primary school teacher with specialisms in English and mathematics. With a proven track record of raising attainment and experience of leading mathematics in a primary school, I have developed lessons that seek to improve children's conceptual understanding of mathematics. Instead of just 'learning the method', I believe it is important to understand the deeper concept in order to unlock true mastery of maths. To achieve this, I plan engaging lessons that have a real-life stimulus. I provide support through scaffolding, not through giving an easier question. By keeping the bar high, I seek to raise pupil performance and their aspirations.

As a lover of reading and writing, I have developed a robust knowledge of the strongest approaches to improving writing: from being able to make a start, to overcoming writer's block, and to weaving strong, engaging sentences that have a clear purpose.

Above all, I love teaching and I love working with children. I have always championed a positive, supportive, enthusiastic classroom where the learning process is seen as more important than the end goal.
