I work around the student. After tutoring GCSE students during my A Levels I learnt that it is best to listen to what the student may be struggling with and working with them to help better understand the issue. I have personal Powerpoints for specific topics but I am also able to create new and exciting presentations and documents if the ones I have are not the most helpful learning style for the student. I take a more student-led approach, where no question is too crazy. I believe in encouraging conversations on topics to help get a better understanding of what the student already knows and what bits they may need extra help with. I found that when I was learning and revising, the best way to remember all the little bits was to have a conversation about them. I always found it harder to remember if the teacher was just reading from a presentation as it gave no context to the facts and figures. I will go into as much depth as the student wants and, if I am not 100% sure on the answer, I will ensure that we learn the information together. I want all students to feel as comfortable as possible when learning and will make any and all accommodations needed to create a fun and (hopefully) academically rich session with the student.
