I am a postgraduate from Lancaster University, where I originally went to study English Literature as my major before switching to Media and Cultural Studies in my second year. I completed my undergraduate and MA degree in Media and have just recently graduated.
I took my A Levels in 2018, studying English Literature, Biology, and Psychology (plus Geography until AS Level). I received BBB for these subjects. Additionally, I received high GCSE results in 2016, with one A* in Physical Education, 8 As (including Maths, English, and Triple Science), and one B.
I am just starting on my tutoring experience and am looking to teach GCSE and A Level students. Specifically, I love English Literature and Media, and I would mainly seek tutoring options in this subject.
Although I have not tutored before, I have broad academic and life experience, which I believe would make me highly suited to this role.
For instance, in 2019, I was a summer camp counsellor at Camp Taconic. I spent three months in America looking after nine-year-old boys to provide a fun summer camp experience. This allowed me to build rapport and trust with the children, support them in unfamiliar activities and encourage them to get out of their comfort zones. Therefore, I believe I can apply this experience to the role of a tutor to enable the child to reach their full potential.
Additionally, I have career experience in Media. Some examples include:
- 'Social Media Manager' for Grizedale Bar at Lancaster University
- 'Media and Communications Exec Officer' of the County College Netball Club
- 'Strategic Content Advisor' for Eco.Educated
- Completing the 'Avado Fast Futures online internship'
- Completing the Google 'Fundamentals of Digital Marketing Course'
- Blog Writer for 'RocknDogs'
Thus, although I never studied Media at A Level, I have learned it in higher education, and I would be confident in teaching at the school or university levels.
A very brief outline of my lessons would include the following:
- Discussing the student's goals at the beginning and making a plan of how we can achieve them
- Providing extra materials/resources
- Visual learning, using visual methods to retain knowledge
- Mock exam questions to apply and practice
- Evaluation at the end of each session and discussion of what to improve on
