I have experience teaching button accordion to both classes and on a 1 to 1 basis at all levels of play, and have a grade 8 in traditional button accordion.
Your first lesson will be used to get a feel for what level you’re currently sitting at in order to be able to cater the lessons to you. You will be asked to play a tune, and I will have material ready to teach for the remainder of the lesson depending on your level.
If you’re a beginner, we will spend a few lessons learning some basic tunes, to help ease you into the instrument. These tunes will help you to be able to play in a session, allowing you to enjoy the music while playing with others.
Musicians with a fairly good repertoire will be introduced to basic ornamentation and bass notes, such as cuts, rolls and bass patterns. This will help you develop your style as a player. You will be encouraged to develop your own style and use what ornamentation you feel fits your style.
Musicians with a good understanding of ornamentation and bass notes will be introduced to some complex tunes, with more complicated ornamentation involved. These tunes will be mostly to help teach better technique that you may not know, as well as expanding the range of tunes in your repertoire.
I will be open to requests as well, if there’s any specific tune you might be struggling with, any technique you might need to go over, or if there’s something you want to prepare for, let me know and I can cover it for you! After all, I’m here to help you achieve your goals as a musician, so I’m more than happy to cater to your needs!
