In my lessons I aim to create a calm nurturing environment for students to feel supported with their learning. My teaching style is very adaptive to the needs and learning style of the student.
My lessons focus on students understanding of the key concepts of biology and how they all link together throughout the curriculum. Retrieval practice is a key element for helping students to retain the information. I have many helpful mnemonics and memory techniques that I am able to use to support students with this.
It is also crucial that the students have a very good understanding of the different questioning styles that will be used my the exam they will sit, which are dependent on their level and exam board. I give clear instruction as to what is expected in each type of question and where the common pitfalls are.
I use modelling strategies to help students practice their exam technique and the mathematical elements of their exam. Continuing to scaffold the support if needed when they write their own answers.
I also use metacognitive strategies to create more self-regulating and reflective learners which is a major focus of current education research and is showing great effects.
My lessons are usually an hour but can be longer if requested. I offer lessons at KS3, GCSE and A Level.
