A lesson would include a brief discussion with the student about what they already know about a topic and then some key information about the topic (formulae, theorems, etc.). I would then do two worked-through questions where I provide a detailed step-by-step explanation of the process. This would take up to 20 minutes. I would then provide a couple of practice questions and get the student to work out and talk me through each question, providing suggestions on what step to do next if they get stuck. I would then discuss further applications of the topic and its connections to other topics. The lesson would finish with an evaluation of the student's understanding, both of what errors I can see in the questions they did and their recognition of what they are still unsure about, and I would try to provide any extra explanations and further resources.
I am a current A-level student studying Maths and Further Maths with a predicted A* in both. I obtained a 9 in GCSE maths and obtained a grade A in the level three qualification FSMQ (similar to a Maths AS)
I have experience tutoring year 7 students at my school during lunchtime, and I am a maths prefect.
