I use a variety of teaching methods to make my lessons interesting and interactive - individual tutoring allows me to check understanding at every step which I do by a range of different assessment techniques.
The lesson on a given topic will generally start off by checking out prior learning on this topic - particularly important when prior knowledge is fundamental to the new topic being taught. I will then gradually introduce new information or a new topic and check for understanding at each stage.
I typically conclude lessons by carrying out an overall testing of understanding often using previous exam questions in the case of GCSE to build confidence.
As with everything practice makes perfect so I will also set homework on the lesson so that the student gets more confident at answering questions and I can see where good progress is being made and also which areas may need revisiting.
