In my lessons, I aim to create an engaging, interactive and student-focused environment. This means I tailor the lesson to best-suit your learning methods! Whether this is through powerpoint presentations, hand-out documents or primarily discussions, I will ensure that each lesson is cultivated to what you want and need.
As a general overview, the format of my lessons are a blend of discussion, guided analysis and practical exercises. The first lesson I will begin assessing your current understanding of the specified topic, which will help me tailor the lessons to your pace and understanding. From there, I find it beneficial to provide a clear overview of the historical period/event we are covering, before exploring key themes, figures and their significance. I will incorporate a mix of primary sources, secondary readings and multimedia to ensure the lessons are dynamic and well-rounded, contributing to your in-depth understanding of the topic. I encourage students to ask their own questions, engage in critical thinking and develop their own interpretations, particularly regarding primary sources, to foster healthy debates and discussions. Each lesson will end with a recap and feedback to ensure consistent progress, as well as possible assignments and/or reading recommendations for a deeper understanding.
My experience involves extensive research in the field of history and politics during my MSc at the University of Oxford and my BA at the University of Warwick, along with personal teaching and mentoring roles I have undertaken. I specialise in the region of Eurasia, and particularly 20th and 21st century Russia, but have had extensive studying in other areas, including but not limited to The Tudor Period, Europe during WW1 and WW2, Ancient Greece, the Song Dynasty, the Cold War and geopolitical dynamics in the 21st century.
