I cater my lessons the individual students, whether they are looking to improve in general understanding of certain concepts and areas, help with homework and further study or work on preparing for tests and exams. I am happy to work both online and in person (if location allows) as I understand that different students work better in different forms, but my methodology is consistent for both types of tutoring. In both cases I find it useful to do a first (free) online meeting to discuss the aims and goals of the student, and also to see if I am the right fit for them as a tutor.
If looking for general improvement in areas I spend the beginning of the lesson getting to know the level of understanding, then using revision guides, worksheets and interactive quizzes, work on improving and solidifying understanding. I find having a basis of something to work on, but with the possibility to discuss and engage with the material through talking, is a very effective way of learning not only new ideas, but ways the process the ideas and memorise them.
If looking to prepare and improve for exams and tests, I find that working through practice questions is a good place to start, which then allows us to find the areas of confusion and address them directly.
I love the subject of chemistry and have studied it all the way to University, but have experienced the trickier aspects of it, so am well versed in finding different ways to approach questions about Chemistry. I am keen to pass on that knowledge and those learning skills to students wanting to improve their Chemistry!
