Nothing could have prepared me for the joy I have felt in returning to the classroom in 2022. After a long career in secondary education, during which I achieved never less than ‘Outstanding’ in all Ofsted inspections and developed a Creative and Media Diploma that was used as the example of best practice nationally, I took early retirement in 2014. Since then, I have opened and run a successful vintage tearoom in the town of Wellington and this has, until January of this year, been my full-time focus.

After the pandemic years there was a ‘call to arms’ for all experienced teachers to help schools get students back in to learning and, due to this, I signed up to the National Teaching Programme. I was instantly placed in a local primary school where I taught children in KS2, English. This term I have been working at Bridgwater College teaching Drama and Theatre Studies in KS4. Both these placements have encouraged me to continue teaching again in a part-time capacity.

Since 2020 I have also been co-founder of the Levels Youth Theatre. A skills-based group that works with children aged 6 – 11 on all aspects of theatre and film.

I am confident that I can fill any vacancy, both professionally, and with a commitment to inspiring and encouraging children; which I have always believed to be the role of a teacher.
I do not make this statement lightly. I have been blessed to be involved with the growing minds of young people for many years and have seen how they respond to the respect I have for them and the enjoyment I find in helping them explore their world and the world of others.

I would welcome the opportunity to bring my experience and enthusiasm to any teaching or tutoring position.
