As a stickler for English grammar, with lower to medium level students, I normally like to spend 20 minutes in an hour learning a new grammar topic and then putting it into practice with both some written and spoken exercises to practice and prove to me that they have fully mastered the topic.
Then for the remainder of the class, if the student wishes to suggest an area of interest (or otherwise I chose a suitable area) we read an article or listen to a a spoken extract and look in-depth at new vocabulary and expressions within that context, with me asking the student questions to ensure comprehension. This will then lead on to a lengthy conversation on the specific topic in which I try to encourage the student to express opinion and ask and answer questions in English. I normally don't like to interrupt during the flow of the conversation to correct but instead take a note of mistakes which I communicate to the student by Whatsapp or email and then in the following class I go back and test the student on those mistakes.
For higher level or business/legal English students they sometimes come to me with specific translations or presentations they are working on. We can screenshare and read through the document with me commenting on any errors and improving expressions. Alternatively, I have some legal precedent documents I can share with student if they want to get a feel for UK legal documents such as an Employment Contract etc
