I listen to what students want to achieve, what they feel their weaknesses are and we agree about how to get there within a defined timeframe.
For school students I can follow the syllabus or deviate as required by the students. I teach grammar but focus mainly on practical usage of the language in day-to-day situations of French life and in reading/comprehension of standard French books but also, online news and current affairs and printed material. Oral French is practiced using online materials, again from the syllabus or from the internet.
I focus on success and ensuring that the student finds my teaching fun, uplifting and not off-putting. To do this, I choose materials that are thought provoking, current, worth learning from and interesting to the student. If the student expresses a particular interest in a given area, I will spend time on it but not at the expense of the syllabus subjects.
