I taught in person before moving to teaching online and my experience has taught me that students all have unique learning styles. Therefore I use a blend of presentations, written explanations and graphics in order to help convey the content to the student in a format that suits their unique learning style. I can also help with exam preparations, for example, explaining timings for questions and how to structure answers. On top of that, I will try to ensure that students are mentally ready for exams as being overwhelmed on the day can lead to underperformance, even if the student does know all the content.
I have also experienced that incorporating ineractive elements into teaching (e.g. quizzes) helps with retention and breaks what can be quite a monotonus lesson, so I like to incorporate more elements of fun into my lessons through the form of an interactive quiz or picture based activities, again depending on the style and preferances of the learner.
For my English lessons, depending on whether I am working with the student on language or literature I will either break down a text with the learner and help them to create annotations that they can remember and will bring them credit on their exams or I will run through the language paper with them and will help them with analysis of poems and in creative writing.
In my Biology lessons, my primary focus will be on ensuring that the student has a solid foundation in all areas before moving on to consolidate the details of the topics e.g. understanding of hormones in general before moving on to discuss a specific hormone like insulin.
