With over 5 years in tuition experience, my teaching method involves going over Chemistry content using any relevant tools (models, simulations, videos, images) to convey the information in a more simplified manner. Throughout my lessons, I promote a more discussion-based approach, encouraging my students to learn and discuss the content we go over.
I tend to use google one-drive and Microsoft OneNote to digitally keep track of lesson notes and resources with my students, allowing them to access our lessons and homework at their convenience. To facilitate learning, I use visual aids such as whiteboards, diagrams, and pictures. These tools help simplify complex concepts and make them more accessible to students. I also incorporate past-paper questions to demonstrate how to apply knowledge in exam scenarios. This approach helps students develop effective strategies for tackling exams and maximizes their chances of success. I typically have a lesson focused on theory, started from the required building blocks to build-up knowledge and then a subsequent lesson that focuses entirely on questions (starting from simple to more advanced questions to explore how many different ways a topic could be questioned).
When conducting online tutoring sessions, I utilize platforms like Zoom to connect with my students. I employ a separate program that allows me to share my computer screen, making it easier for students to follow along with my explanations. Additionally, I use a graphics tablet, which enhances the clarity and readability of my handwriting.
Before each tutoring session, it is important for me to understand the exam board my student is following. This knowledge allows me to align our lessons with the specific requirements of their exams. I also gather information about the student's current level of understanding and the number of hours they require. This helps me tailor the session to their individual needs and ensure that they receive comprehensive instruction within the allotted time. It is essential for me to know the specific topic or module that the student wants assistance with.
