Having spent the past some years studying Arabic in the Middle East, I’ve developed a strong interest in further study of the language and its associated culture. My studies have given me a good understanding of Arab and Islamic culture as well as the experience of researching on my own to gain a deeper and broader knowledge of the subject. I particularly benefited from having to prepare presentations for lessons in Arabic poetry, and being able to defend my views. This entailed using books such as Wright’s Grammar, and A New Arabic Grammar by Haywood and Nahmad, in order to demonstrate my findings or understanding to the teacher in a logical and structured manner.

During my studies I took a huge interest in pre-Islamic poetry, literature and history. I became fascinated by the subtleties of the language and how poets can influence and even manipulate readers’ emotions by their expression of thought and by their ability to encourage the expansion of our imaginations and understanding. In addition to this, my interest in Arabic linguistics was broadened by reading The Arabic Linguistic Tradition by Kees Versteegh, who offers a linguistic survey of the language by providing translations and commentaries of representative samples from the works of major Arab grammarians.

After spending years of travelling and studying the Middle East, I believe I’ve mastered what works for students learning a new language especially Arabic.

I have a lot of experience in teaching, and will tailor my lessons to suit your needs to achieve your goals in a fun environment.
