I believe in meeting people where they are at. Everyone experiences learning English differently and there isn't a one-size-fits-all method for everyone. Something I heard a lot from my peers growing up was that RUAE was especially hard because there has to be a lot of confidence behind your answer and finding in-text evidence to back it up can be challenging. However, I am a strong believer that most students have an adequate foundation to answer these questions - the main thing that needs to be focused on is practice in order to build confidence.
The same can't be said for portfolio work, but the beauty of this part of the course content is that you are being celebrated for your voice - authenticity is the key. I keep the focus on leveling up flow, syntax and some vocabulary without diluting the original message of the text.
My experience is practical as I have been through, and successfully passed, National 5 and Higher English. It came naturally to me, but through helping peers and students in years below me I have gained experience in understanding many different struggles that people may have, such as the aforementioned struggles. I am in the process of completing Advanced Higher English (equivalent to the first year of University) and I am on track to get an A in this subject while helping Highers below me with their portfolios. I have been commended for my polite, agreeable nature - but I am not scared of being a voice of reason and education to someone who needs support.
Along with English I can assist with up to National 5 Maths, and up to National 5/Higher Modern Studies.
