Having tutored independently for two years now, I am accutely aware of an individual students needs in regards to the pace of learning. During sixth form, I was an academic captain, helping student with concepts in maths and sciences, and as such I helped many GCSE and A-Level students with maths. In addition, I have tutored more A-Level and GCSE students outside of sixth form, through requests from family friends. In all cases, I helped those students become more confident and capable of handling the material.
I will use powerpoints, pages from textbooks and a screen share whiteboard to aid in the presentation of the content. I ask for active participation when explaining concepts, to ensure understanding throughout, and it is this understanding of the material I priotise as opposed to a memorisation of formulae. I will frequently ask questions on the spot to keep students thinking, and go through the answers step by step as well.
I pride myself on the clarity of my explanations as well as offering clear insight on where any important formulae or ideas come from, to give students a deeper and intuitive understanding of the subject, that if not inspiring a passionate love for mathematics, will at least enable them to handle any of the more thought-provoking problems they may encounter in an exam situation with confidence.
